Starlight's Story Chapter 14

Starlight sits on her bed reading a book. There aren’t many Visitors that night for her to look after. So Starlight decides to catch up on her reading. She is reading a book called The Phantom of the Opera. She is half through it and is quite content with the book. Things are getting dangerous in the book. She finishes a chapter and closes the book knowing it is time for break and to stretch her legs. She hops off the bed and shakes her legs awake.

A thought across her mind about the Visitor's world again and other creatures that live in their world. She read several small books about animals, fishes, birds, insects, spiders, and lizards. She knows the basics about them and traits that they share. How they live in their world, what they eat, how they interact with each other, what kind of environment they live in, along with how a lot of nightmarens have one or more traits of the creatures. For example, Starlight, NiGHTS, Jackle, and Reala have cat-like eyes.

Cat eyes....

The lime green nightmaren has been to the Waking world many times. Most of them she has gonna solo and without NiGHTS or Owl's permission and other times she is with NiGHTS. But she has never gone to the Waking World in another form other then her normal form and human form. So what would it be like to go there in different form? Starlight is getting better at changing forms but still requires a mask. What would is it like to be a cat in the Waking world? She thinks to herself.

She ponders for a few moments. It can be fun. Sunbathing and sleeping while everyone else works, chasing butterfly and mice, roaming wherever you want, and getting food and milk for free. That sounds like fun to Starlight. Of course she won't be able to fly and have to dodge traffic and everyone else that aren't nice to cats, especially dogs. But she could live with it for awhile. So why doesn't she?

A sly grin form on Starlight's face. She opens the windows and peeks out to see if the nightopians or Owl are there, and they're not. She smiles and floats out of her home and closes and locks the windows behind her. She flies to the door that leads to the Dreams Gates and opens it. Letting the light surround her and into the Dream Gates. Starlight quickly flies over to the gates and checks to make sure that neither Owl nor NiGHTS are there. Neither NiGHTS nor Owl are there so Starlight proceeds to open the gates and close them behind her, learning her lesson the first time. She flies down the path and into the Waking world.

Soon Starlight is on top of Bellbridge clock tower. It is night time again. The lime green maren looks over Bellbridge, she like looking at it during night time, and scans for a place to change. She spots a dark, empty alley close to the clock tower. She flies down and avoids being seen by anyone. She lands and checks to make sure no one is really there. When the coast is clear Starlight closes her eyes and breaths deeply. She thinks of a feline and what she wants to look like. A bright light envelopes Starlight and fills up the alley, likely no one is around to see it, and the light ceases.

Starlight opens her eyes and blinks. She looks down and sees two blonde paws and she realizes she on all fours and smaller. She looks around for a mirror of sort and spots a dirty window. She hops on top of a garbage bin and looks at her reflection. Staring back at her is a feline with blonde fur and lime green eyes, long white whiskers pointing out of the maw, around her neck is yellow collar and blue marble jewel with silver, and a pink nose to boot. She raises her paw to the glass and sees that it is pink. The cat licks her lips maw and blinks.

I did it! Starlight thinks to herself green eyes sparkling with joy. She turns around in circles and stands on her hind legs for a few seconds. YAY! Starlight cheers in her mind and mews. She blinks. Right, cats can't speak human they can only meow and hiss.

Starlight hops off the garbage bin and back to the ground. She trots out of the alley and wanders about the streets. A few humans stare at her but continue walking. The once nightmaren but now kitty cat looks at the neon signs and spots a pair of young humans that she has seen in Nightopia.

She jogs over to them and gets there attention by meowing.

"Hi there kitty." A teenage girl with curly, brown, short hair, freckles, and amber eyes notices Starlight and says. Reaching to out pet her and Starlight allows it. Starlight likes it and leans into the awaken Visitor.

"That's a friendly cat." Says the other awaken Visitor. She has mid-length, strawberry blonde hair and icy blue eyes. Starlight shudders under those eyes and that look like Reala's.

"Who's a good kitty. Who's a good kitty." The first one coos to Starlight as she scratches her behind the ears. Starlight loves it. This feels good... Starlight thinks to herself, enjoying it.

The blonde one bends down and looks at Starlight in her feline form. "She has a collar so she must belong to someone." The girl said.

"She must be one of those outdoor-in-indoor cats." The brown hair says and picks Starlight up. Both Starlight and the blonde awake Visitor give her strange looks. "You know a cat that explores and goes outside and comes inside the house when they hungry or thirst or want attention." Or when it rains. Starlight adds in her mind and meows.

"I can see that." The blonde shrugs. A dong sound comes far way. "Time to go home."

The other 'awe’s "Okay." She puts Starlight down and pets her one more time. "Bye kitty. Be careful getting home." They both walk away from her.

I will. Bye. Starlight says in her mind.

Starlight continues her walk down the street again. Coming up upon a kiddy park, Starlight walks into the park. There is a tunnel, a swing set, a jungle gym, a slide, and a kid fort. The lamps light of the kiddy construction site.

She climbs the fort and slides down the slide. Weeeee! Starlight cheers. She climbs back up and slides down again a bunch of times. She jumps off the fort and walks through the tunnel. It is dark and good place to play hide-and-seek in. She runs over to the swings and jumps onto one of the swings and tries to make it go back and forth, but she can't and gets her tail stuck in the chain. Starlight hisses and yanks her tail free. Holding it and licking it to hopefully stop the pain. Starlight scampers over to a small water fountain close by. Reaching up on her back legs, Starlight pokes her maw over the fountain and manages to push the button to get the water. But the blonde feline gets sprayed in the face and up her nose. She hisses and shakes her head to get the water off. Starlight's head is still wet and shakes some more and runs her paws over her head only to get them wet too. Starlight gets dizzy from shaking her head to much and stop and she starts to clean herself like a cat does.

Soon a familiar swoosh sound is heard and Starlight's eyes widens. Oh no.... Starlight thinks and wonders what to do. She decides to pretend like a normal cat and just continue licking.

NiGHTS floats right in front on Starlight in her cat form. Starlight continues to pretend to be an ordinary cat and continues to lick herself dry. NiGHTS stares at her and folds his arms.

"You do know that ordinary cats usually run away from strange creatures, right?" NiGHTS asks in a monotone voice. Her eyes widen and she stops licking. She looks up at NiGHTS. NiGHTS smiles. "You’re getting better at changing."

Starlight huffs and looks away from NiGHTS. NiGHTS is shocked.

"Why are you mad?" NiGHTS asks. Starlight lies down on her stomach. "Are you mad because I found you?" She nods. "Why?" Moments past and Starlight didn't do anything, giving NiGHTS the silent treatment. "Will you please change back and talk to me?" She didn't do anything. NiGHTS sighs and pulls out a handkerchief. "At least let me dry you off." NiGHTS rubs her head with handkerchief places one hand on her back.

Starlight is surprised but NiGHTS rubbing is like being petted again and she purrs. NiGHTS is surprised by the purring but continues to dry her off and starts to pet her back. Starlight purrs contently pushing her back against NiGHTS’ hand. NiGHTS finishes drying Starlight's fur and stops petting her to put his now wet handkerchief away.

Starlight fusses and meows rubbing her head against NiGHTS leg. NiGHTS is shocked by her behave but pets her again. Starlight loves it. She pops wheelies to reach up and meet NiGHTS’ hand. NiGHTS is very confused by Starlight's behave and blushes but continues to pet her. NiGHTS can't help of picturing Starlight in her normal form and doing this, making NiGHTS blush even more. NiGHTS scratches her behind the ears and under her chin. Starlight purrs louder. NiGHTS picks her up and continues to pet and scratch her. Starlight is surprised but goes back to purring and enjoying being petted. NiGHTS soon stop petting her and Starlight looks at him confused.

"Please change back." NiGHTS says. "We need to go home."

Starlight looks at NiGHTS for awhile before nodding slowly and closing her eyes. The bright appears again and NiGHTS closes his eyes to protect from the blinding light. That disappears and Starlight appears in her normal form. NiGHTS' arms fall down but quickly adjust to hold Starlight in her normal form. NiGHTS forgot to put her down before she transformed back. Starlight blinks lying in NiGHTS' arms on her stomach. NiGHTS carefully puts Starlight down and back on her feet.

"That was fun." Starlight giggles.

NiGHTS nods, "Let's go home now." Starlight nods back and takes off with NiGHTS.

They fly back to the Bellbridge's clock tower and go through the portal. NiGHTS and Starlight show up at the Dream Gates. Before NiGHTS can leave Starlight grabs his hand. NiGHTS is puzzled.

"Can please pet me again?" Starlight asks with glimmer in her eyes.

NiGHTS is shocked and doesn't know what to say.

"Please?" Starlight asks again with hopeful eyes.

NiGHTS gives in and mutters a "Fine." Starlight beams with joy and let’s goes of NiGHTS' hand. NiGHTS shakily rises his hand and pets her on the back. Starlight purrs from the action and closes her eyes. NiGHTS continues to pet her and scratch her chin and head. Starlight loves it and continues to purrs. NiGHTS' face is a very bright red now and is glad that Starlight can't see it.
